Lyon Den News Briefs

- Marlene
created five 'sanctuary drama' skits for the four Sundays of Advent plus the Christmas Eve service. Mary, shepherds and wise men always get front stage at Christmas. But, what about Joseph, Elizabeth, Simeon and Gabriel - don't you think there are stories to tell with each of them? Marlene does, and has brought these stories to life. Our Pastor used that same theme in each of the sermons that followed - so it has been a time of looking at Advent with a bit of a different perspective on God's wonderful gift of his Son.
The picture at the right was taken at the retreat/seminar we hosted. The "name tag" says "Boss Lady!" So - she is back and in top form again!

Who is that "hooded man"? It's Luckie playing the role of "Simeon" (ref. Luke 2:25 - 35). It's one of the 'sanctuary dramas' cited in Marlene's news. This one is for the "Prophecy" candle - First Sunday of Advent. The theme for the service is "Waiting" - which prophecy requires. But, also - "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength ..." (ref. Isaiah 40:31-NKJV). The results of this were that he was asked to do a reprise in the Spanish speaking service - with translated narration streaming on the main screen. Oh, and the beard is real - started in November. Of course there is much discussion (pro & con) throughout the Lyon clan about whether it is a good thing or not.
Previous News:
Luckie had a bout with the Guillain-Barre syndrome - Pronounced: "ghee'-YAN - bar'- RAY". He is still having to "live with" some of the numbness, but that is slowly decreasing and is mainly in the finger tips and bottoms of the feet. So - Praise the Lord! - things are coming back to normal. A December appointment is a follow-up, but the neurologist expects that most symptoms will be gone by then with the current progress the outlook is great.
All this started during a 3500 mile road trip in May 2008 Luckie's hands and feet suddenly became numb. Difficulty with swallowing and severe loss of energy followed. It turned out to be "Guillain-Barre syndrome", which, though rare, is generally serious. You can read about it by clicking on one of these:
We are so grateful to God that the onset, though quick, was very mild (for this malady) and that there is a very high rate of recovery, even among people with very serious cases. The Doctors are surprised at the mildness of the attack, for a 'average' case generally requires time in an ICU. They are also surprised at his recovery - because months of physical therapy are normal and he hasn't had to do any.
Luckie continues to do Websmithing and continues to maintain the church site. If you would like a peek it is:
Of course he is still baking - in fact a new 1000 watt Cuisinart stand mixer followed him home from Utah - (love those big sales). More on that as experience with this new "toy" grows. Of course you can click here for recipes and some baking pictures.
